Seven evolving bodies of work trace a continuing inquiry into nature, cultural identity, transformation, impermanence, spirituality, and the fluid relationship between representation and abstraction.

2017–Present

Luminosity Series

In my Luminosity Series, I explore nature, memory, and impermanence through floral-nautilus paintings that merge precise realism with flowing, improvised patterns. Inspired by the fleeting beauty of blossoms and shells, my work reflects on transience, loss, and renewal. Influenced by Zen Buddhist philosophy and my experiences navigating Eastern and Western cultures, I seek balance between tradition and contemporaneity.

2008–2016

Enlightenment Series

The Enlightenment Series explores the intersection of spirituality, cultural memory, and contemporary painting through inspirations drawn from Chinese Buddhist philosophy and Taoist thought. Rooted in research at ancient sacred sites, the series transforms Buddhist iconography and natural motifs into luminous visual metaphors that invite contemplation and transcendence.

2002–2007

Spiral Series

The Spiral Series evolved from my 2002 transitional painting, The Beauty of Complexity, which marked a pivotal shift in my artistic direction. Building upon my earlier exploration of the Chinese jade bi and the nautilus shell, I transformed these enduring symbols into fluid metaphors of cultural exchange, growth, and continual transformation.

2001–2007

Flight Series

The Flight Series explores transformation, resilience, and the human desire to transcend limitation. Centered on the spiral of the nautilus shell, the paintings weave together symbolic mechanical wings, DNA helices, and flowing organic forms into a visual language of continual evolution. Executed in luminous watercolor, the compositions dissolve boundaries between biology and technology, vulnerability and strength.

2000–2003

In-Between Series

The In-Between Series explores the shifting terrain of identity, memory, and cultural belonging through the experience of living between Hong Kong and the United States. Rather than presenting Eastern and Western cultures as opposing worlds, these works embrace their continual interaction, where meanings, images, and identities remain fluid and evolving.

1995–1999

Escapade Series

The Escapade Series explores the dynamic relationship between order and chance, life and mortality, through the interplay of meticulously rendered skulls and spontaneous inkblot forms. Influenced by Taoist concepts of harmony and continual transformation, the paintings balance opposing forces within divided and mirrored compositions.

1992–1994

Reconciliation Series

The Reconciliation Series marks a transition from exploring the dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures toward discovering their natural convergence. Anchored by the spiral of the nautilus shell, the paintings symbolize growth, continuity, and the cyclical rhythm of transformation. Layered textures, luminous color, and gestural surfaces merge abstraction with representation.
